Day #94 Merry Christmas Thank You’s!

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

This year was our first Christmas where Boo knew all about ‘Santa’ coming and he was so excited….. we’ve never been able to get him bathed and into bed so quickly!! How high were the excitement levels in your house?

After all the family had headed home, it was time to get some ‘Thank You’ cards written…..

What You’ll Need

  • White A4 card folded in half
  • Ink pad – we used a washable ‘child friendly’ ink
  • Sharpie markers

Picture 002

I drew some balloon strings onto our cards and then we used the ink pad to create thumb print balloons.  Boo insisted that we all created a balloon – even Izzy!

Day #93 Spin Spin Spin!

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

Wow! I  can’t believe Christmas is over! We’ve had such a busy few days! Last minute gift shopping, lunch at our favourite Ice Cream Parlour (Yummy Yorkshire!) and then racing around to drop off flowers at Gram’s and Nana’s before heading home to sprinkle our reindeer food on the garden and get ready for bed! Father Christmas came and delivered lots of lovely pressies and we had lots of fun playing with all the great gifts.

Phew! Just about recovering now.

With just a short downtime this afternoon, I decided to show Boo a really quick make that was a lot of fun!

What You’ll Need

  • Milk bottle tops – the plastic ones – with a hole drilled through the middle so that a cocktail stick just fits through
  • Cocktail sticks
  • White/Blue Tac
  • Pony Beads
  • Scissors

Picture 002

Slide a cocktail stick through a small ball of white tac and then through the middle of the milk bottle top.  Add a bead to the top and then snap off the pointy end of the cocktail stick from the top part of the spinner.

Day #92 Leaving On A Jet Plane…

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

We are now half way through the pre-school holidays and Boo was clearly in need of something to focus his energies on….Daddy to the rescue!!

We seem to have lots of the inner rolls from wrapping paper left over at the moment – no idea why!  Some of these are hard cardboard tubes that are perfect for ‘sword’ fighting and others are like a really thick paper which is apparently perfect for a giant origami make with Daddy!

Picture 003

Draw, Draw, Fold, Fold….What’s it going to be??

Soooooo much fun from this activity – Boo refused to put the plane down all afternoon and spent ages practising with his flying jet plane – with the sound effects added by Boo too!

The simplest things quite often get the best results!!!

Day #91 The Arty Party

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

Last week we had our Creation Station Christmas ‘Arty Parties’!

I had been looking forward to these for ages and to make it extra special Boo was coming too! He doesn’t often get to see Mummy at work as he is at pre-school when I run my weekly classes, so I love it when the holiday’s come around and he gets to come with me to the sessions and create!

Today we were hosting a Christmas version of the birthday parties that we do. ….party bags, party games, music, arty makes, Christmas goodies…2 hours of fabulous crafty fun! 🙂

I didn’t get much time to take photos of Boo making his Christmas goodies with Grams but I’m sure you’ll get the idea…..

Day #90 Mess-Free Finger Painting

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

Izzy and Boo are really starting to enjoy playing together.  Izzy has reached the point where she now has the physical ability to actively join in with Boo’s energetic antics which is so lovely to watch.

I wanted to get some paint out for them to play with today, but couldn’t face the clean-up for two tiny explorers.  The perfect solution – mess free finger-painting!

What You’ll Need

  • Resealable plastic bags – something like ‘Zip-Loc’
  • Paint – whatever colours you like
  • Shaving foam
  • Masking tape

Picture 007

This was a really straightforward activity which was also cleaned up in less than a minute!

We poured a bit of each colour into one of the resealable bags making sure there was a gap between each ‘blob’ of colour.  In the other bag we sprayed some shaving foam.  If you wanted to, you could even add some glitter to the shaving foam to make it sparkle!

Both bags were masking taped to the mat – making sure the ends were sealed properly and folded over before they were taped down (just in case!).

Time to let Izzy and Boo explore….

Picture 002

They squidged and poked at the bags, mixing the colours together and moving the shaving foam around.  Izzy enjoyed looking at the colours as they mixed together and Boo really liked flattening the shaving foam.

Picture 004

Picture 003

Picture 006

Picture 005

When we were done I simply pulled up the bags and threw them away.  You could always save them to use again though, and maybe even add extra colours to the bag…

Day #89 Water Doodles

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

Something that I pull out quite regularly for Boo to play with is our ‘Aqua Doodle’.  It’s a fab activity for when you want to let your little one be creative and messy, but don’t want to deal with the actual ‘mess’.

Izzy is only just getting into holding pens and paintbrushes, so has never really had a play with our ‘doodle mat’ – no time like the present! 🙂

Picture 017

Boo is now able to fill his own ‘doodle pen’ with water which is quite useful since a lot of the time he will sit and doodle, and then also suck the water from the pen!

Picture 004

Picture 006

Izzy was very intrigued with her pen and kept making big swirls across the mat.  I loved that even when she decided to draw all over herself, there was no stress for me as it’s just water.

Picture 008

Picture 010

When the mat was covered we simply left it out to dry and our ‘canvas’ magically erased ready for next time…

Day #88 Frosty The Bauble

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

It’s Izzy’s first year of being mobile and also very much aware of the twinkly, glittery Christmas tree in our living room.  We weren’t sure if she would pull the tree down or be scared of it…..

It actually turns out that her favourite game EVER is to have us all playing musical baubles!

Izzy takes them off the tree, Boo chases her down, puts them back on the tree and then Mummy ends up re-arranging the decorations so that they aren’t all hanging off one branch!

Since the baubles keep coming off the tree I thought that we should decorate one…

What You’ll Need

  • Bauble – Boo picked one off our Christmas tree
  • White paint – we used Crayola washable
  • Black & Red/Orange marker pen – we used ‘Sharpie’

Picture 001

We painted Boo’s thumb and printed a lovely snowman shape onto the bauble.

Picture 002

When it was dry, Mummy got a bit creative with the marker pens……

Picture 003

Boo then decided it was time Mummy got her hands very painty for some prints….I gave him the paint brush back and after putting the camera away let him loose on my hands…..oh dear!

Day #87 Ssss POP!

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

I was trying to tidy up our spare room and hunt down some Christmas wrapping paper when Boo managed to find my bubble wrap stash!

Have you ever noticed how bubble wrap seems to multiply if left for too long?

I was wondering how we could use up some of the wrap in an activity and decided on a bubbly, painty snake….

What You’ll Need

  • Paper plate
  • Paint – we used yellow Crayola washable
  • Rolling pin
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Sellotape & Scissors
  • Bubble wrap
  • Red card – just a tiny bit for the tongue

Picture 001

I covered the rolling pin with the bubble wrap and smothered it with yellow paint – sort of looks like a corn cob!

Boo had fun rolling the ‘bubble cob’ over the paper plate creating awesome patterns.  He absolutely loved rolling the bubble covered tool over his hands and then popping the bubbles.

“Pop Pop Mummy!”

Picture 005

We set it to one side to dry and then cut a spiral into it…”Snip Snip Mummy!”

Picture 009

Wiggly eyes and a wiggly tongue and we were done!

Day #86 Beading Around!

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

After a really busy morning at pre-school I needed an activity that Boo could sit and do quietly.  He is slowly starting to drop his afternoon nap so I am on the hunt for activities that can keep him quietly occupied in the afternoons whilst Izzy is asleep.

What You’ll Need

  • Wire Shape – we used a heart
  • Keyring attachment
  • Pipe Cleaner
  • Beads

Picture 001

Boo really loves to thread things.  He can sit for ages playing with a bowl of cut up straws and pipe cleaners, which I love because it’s building his concentration skills.

We settled down and worked on our lovely beaded star with some festive Christmas tunes on in the background.

Picture 004

Sparkly – I wonder who’ll be getting this for Christmas…..?

Day #85 Baby Art!

sara le rouxby Sara le Roux,  Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District

Izzy was a happy bunny today.  What better time to get her suited up and get messy!

What You’ll Need

  • Large canvas
  • Paint – we used Crayola washable
  • Card shapes – we used hearts and stars
  • Masking tape
  • Fluffy brush
  • Marker pen
  • Decoration – sequins, glitter glue etc

Picture 003

I used some masking tape to attach the card shapes to the canvas and poured the paint into dishes ready to use.  Wet cloth at the ready…..

Picture 005

Izzy loves paint!

Picture 006

Picture 008

She swirled it around with her fingers and started to make marks on the canvas.

Picture 012

Fluffy brush painting!

We switched colours halfway through……

When she was done we had a quick clean up and pulled the card shapes off the canvas.  When the canvas was dry I added a bit of ‘Mummy Sparkle’ and it was done!
