Salt Dough Christmas Decorations
Make some Christmas decorations which will last for years, using a simple salt dough recipe you can make some really exciting decorations for your tree.
You will need:
Step One
Put the salt and flour into a bowl, then add the water slowly. Use your hands to bring the mixture together. After about ten minutes of kneading, it should form a soft ball. If it’s slightly too sticky, add more flour and if it’s slightly too dry, add more water. You can colour the dough at this stage if you don’t want to paint them later. Add some paint to the dough mixture and fold it in until it is all the same colour. This stage can get very messy so make sure you have prepared your surfaces and are wearing the appropriate clothes.
Step Two
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin and use your pastry cutters to create a range of shapes. Don’t forget to make a small hole in each one so that you can hang it on the tree later.
You can also add some texture or patterns to your decorations at this stage. Try making a pattern with a cocktail stick or seeing what pattern is left behind when you roll some lace or paper doily on top of your dough.
Step Three
The decorations will harden if just left out in the air but this can take about 48 hours. Alternatively bake them in the oven at 100C for 3-4 hours. You may need to turn then and check that the hole for the ribbon doesn’t close over.
Step Four
Leave them to cool and then decorate. Use paint and glitter to make them as colourful as you want. You can paint them with a layer of PVA to varnish once finished. This will make them last that little bit longer.

Santa Spoon
You will need:
Step One
Give your Santa some arms by twisting a pipe cleaner around the handle of the spoon. Make sure to leave an equal length either side of the handle. You can then us these to attach his red clothes to. To make these you can use either tissue paper or crepe paper or even fabric. Add a belt by cutting a thin strip of black paper.
Step Two
Build up his beard and hair using either cotton wool or tissue paper.
Step Three
Cut out a triangle of red paper to make his hat. Add a pom pom or some more cotton wool on top of his hat.
Step Four
Finally bring him to life by gluing on some wiggly eyes and adding a mouth.
Your Santa spoon is now finished. You could stand him up in your window or outside your door to make sure Santa stops by to deliver your presents.

We’re enjoying getting excited about Christmas. We’ve put up our tree, made our cards and are slowly working our way through making some gifts for family.
One of the things that we always did when I was little was to leave out a snack for Father Christmas and his reindeer. On Christmas morning we would wake up to find bits of left over carrot and crumbs from the eaten mince pies 🙂
Lets make something extra special for ‘Santa’ and his little herd of helpers.
What You’ll Need
This was a lovely activity as you simply need to mix everything together (oats and glitter). We got time to sit down and talk about why we were making the reindeer food and enjoy a glittery ‘cooking’ session.
Stir, Stir, Stir!
So when Christmas Eve arrives we’ll be outside with our reindeer food making sure our lawn is twinkling away for Ruldolph and his friends…..

When it comes to our children I will always insist that they make their Christmas cards to give to our extended family – until they reach their teens anyway and then it’s up to them 🙂
Receiving any sort of present is just wonderful, but the ones I love the most are the homemade ones. I know just how busy people are and to receive something that they have taken time out of their hectic lives to make just for me makes me love and appreciate it so much more.
Get those ‘tooties’ out and make your Christmas cards!!
What You’ll Need
We used our ‘tried and tested’ method of how to prepare paint for handprints or footprints. You can of course simply use a paintbrush to get the paint onto a child’s hand or foot, but by using a sponge you just seem to get a more even coverage, create less mess and even use less paint – plus who doesn’t like squidging their feet into a painty sponge 🙂
We had pre-folded our card into an A5 size and placed them on the counter ready to be printed on – make sure you have a wet cloth handy to wipe painty baby feet afterwards otherwise you may end up covered in it!

Christmas Collage

Elf Family Portraits
You will need:
Step One
Cut out images of you and your family (only the heads!)
Step Two
Cut out small rectangle strips (4 per elf character to make arms and legs) fold them 3 times backwards and forwards to make a zig zag shape. This will give some bounce to your legs.
Step Three
Cut out hands feet and hats and a larger rectangle for the body.
Step Four
Glue or tape all the parts together to create your own family of elves.

Present Labels
Why not make some great present labels to go with your fantastic home made wrapping paper and make your gifts really personal this year with some festive sparkle.
You will need:
Step One
Gather all of the left over Christmas wrapping materials, including ribbon, paper, fancy sellotape etc. Have fun collages different shapes to make your labels. You may need to prep some shapes like trees, baubles, snowmen, candy canes in card for your child to decorate.
Step Two
Don’t forget to make a hole to thread through the string or ribbon. You could even use pipe cleaners to attach the labels to the presents.

Now it is time to turn your wrapping paper design into reality.

Step One
Think about your design, do you want a repeating pattern for example lots of stars, snowflakes or maybe some foot print images? You could draw little cartoon funny faces or even use stencils.
Step Two
Get creative and start decorating your paper.
Every present can have different wrapping paper so experiment with different methods.
