Entertain Your Child With This Fun Summer Craft Activity For Kids

Craft activity for kids- Crab Creationcrab cover draft

One of the fun things about summer, is seeing all the creatures come out to play. But as you can’t take these creatures out of their habitat, we decided to come up with this fun craft idea to create your own life-like crab to remind you of those
summer days. All low cost with hours of fun. This activity also helps with your child’s fine motor skills, helps them notice more features about the environment and how things can be connected. This activity also helps boost their imagination by creating their own little crab friend, which leads to role playing.

Enjoy the step by step video, showing you how we created our crabs. At the end, get your children to name them. One of the girls at head office had their niece name ours… naming him “Pinchy” and the other “Herby”.

Fun Facts:

  • Crabs live in a greater range of places than any other sea animal. As well as the ocean, they live in smoking volcanoes, under the ice in Antarctica and even on land and climb trees.
  • Crabs communicate through drumming their claws or flapping their pincers, they would do well down the Grapevine pub on a Friday night.
  • Female crabs have short pregnancies of just 1 to 2 weeks, which sounds great but they have 2000 eggs, can you imagine.
  • There are over 4,500 different species of crab.

Random Fact- During the night, hermit crabs are often found in large groups near the ocean shore. They are also known to climb over each other instead of walking around them.

Colour & Create Your Own Cool Queen’s Corgi

For most of us a birthday comes once a year, but like Paddington bear our monarch Queen Elizabeth has 2 birthdays and this year is celebrating her 90th year with 8 official days of fun entertainment, from street parties to concerts.

So here’s a few fun facts that you might not know about our #Queenat90 –

  1. Her Majesty is well known for her love of corgis, having received her first one as an 18th birthday present named Susan.
  2. The Queen once invented a new breed of dog called the ‘dorgi’ after she mated her pet corgi with one of Princess Margaret’s dachshunds. The dorgi was named chipper, however, he was killed after The Queen Mother’s dog attacked him.
  3. On the topic of dogs, Her Majesty once demoted a royal footman after it was discovered he had been getting the corgis drunk by mixing whisky and gin to their food and water.

As a respect of her love of the Corgi we have created this fun activity download for your child to enjoy.

Safer Sleep Awareness Week

What is safer sleep week?trust babies

The Lullaby Trust provides specialist support for bereaved families and anyone affected by a sudden infant death

They have taken to social media with #safersleepweek to spread awareness.

What is S.I.D.S.?

‘Sudden Infant Death’ is the term used to describe the sudden and unexpected death of a baby that is initially unexplained.  ‘Cot death’ was a term that was used in the past to describe the sudden and unexpected death of an infant. It has largely been abandoned, due to its misleading suggestions that sudden infant death can only occur when a baby is asleep in their own cot, which we know to be untrue.

Tips-for-Safer-Sleeping-Lullaby-trustSo how can we prevent this from happening?

The Lullaby Trust have shared a video on the do’s and don’ts for your babies sleep.

If you are already getting involved in an event this week, we would love to see your photos of support. Please upload your images with #creationstation to our Facebook or our Twitter.

St David’s Day Celebrations

Happy St David’s Day. Here is a great activity for you to do.

Take a look at some fun facts that you may not know about St Davids Day:

  • Who was St David?                                                                                                                               St David  was a Celtic monk, abbot and bishop, who lived in the sixth century. He spread the word of Christianity across Wales. His names in Welsh is Dewi Sant.

  • Why is the leek the national emblem of Wales?                                                                      There are many explanations of how the leek came to be adopted as the national emblem of Wales. One is that St David advised the Welsh, on the eve of battle with the Saxons, to wear leeks in their caps to distinguish friend from the enemy.

  • What was St David most famous for?                                                                                          The most famous story about Saint David tells how he was preaching to a huge crowd and the ground is said to have risen up, so that he was standing on a hill and everyone had a better chance of hearing him.

  • Why is the daffodil so popular on St Davids Day?                                                                     The daffodil is a generic Welsh symbol which is in season during March. The Welsh wear this symbol on their lapel.
