Entertain Your Child With This Fun Summer Craft Activity For Kids

Craft activity for kids- Crab Creationcrab cover draft

One of the fun things about summer, is seeing all the creatures come out to play. But as you can’t take these creatures out of their habitat, we decided to come up with this fun craft idea to create your own life-like crab to remind you of those
summer days. All low cost with hours of fun. This activity also helps with your child’s fine motor skills, helps them notice more features about the environment and how things can be connected. This activity also helps boost their imagination by creating their own little crab friend, which leads to role playing.

Enjoy the step by step video, showing you how we created our crabs. At the end, get your children to name them. One of the girls at head office had their niece name ours… naming him “Pinchy” and the other “Herby”.

Fun Facts:

  • Crabs live in a greater range of places than any other sea animal. As well as the ocean, they live in smoking volcanoes, under the ice in Antarctica and even on land and climb trees.
  • Crabs communicate through drumming their claws or flapping their pincers, they would do well down the Grapevine pub on a Friday night.
  • Female crabs have short pregnancies of just 1 to 2 weeks, which sounds great but they have 2000 eggs, can you imagine.
  • There are over 4,500 different species of crab.

Random Fact- During the night, hermit crabs are often found in large groups near the ocean shore. They are also known to climb over each other instead of walking around them.

Give your Santa some arms by twisting a pipe cleaner around the handle of the spoon. Make sure to leave an equal length either side of the handle. You can then us these to attach his red clothes to. Step Three

Cut out a triangle of red paper to make his hat. Add a pom pom or some more cotton wool on top of his hat.

Step Four

Finally bring him to life by gluing on some wiggly eyes and adding a mouth.

Your Santa spoon is now finished. You could stand him up in your window or outside your door to make sure Santa stops by to deliver your presents.

Day 12- Creation Station Christmas Countdown

Become a Christmas Elf

Pssst… Santa needs his elves to help him get ready for Christmas, but where have they gone? Maybe they are hiding, they are a bit cheeky!

Maybe we could make Elves hats and pretend we are his Elves until he finds them!

For this we will need:

  • 4 Pieces of card ( 2 green, 1 red and 1 other desired colour for the ears)
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Double sided sticky tape (or glue)

Step One:

With your red card cut 2 long strips (approximately 3 cm wide) to make a head band. Stick the 2 ends of the strips together to create the head band the right size for your head. Place to one side.

Step Two:

Draw a large triangle on a piece of green card and cut out. It doesn’t matter if you can’t fit the top of the triangle on the card as you will add some decoration to the top of the hat.

Step Three:

Now with your double sided sticky tape put a strip on the band and tape the triangle to it.

Step Four:

With your remaining red card, along one of the long sides cut a zig zag pattern.

Step Five:

Now stick this on the front the green triangle. Then cut out a small red circle from the spare card from your head band and attach to the top of your hat.

Now for the final touch!

With the other piece of card, cut out 2 elf ears and stick them on the side!

You are now a elf!

Day 11- Creation Station Christmas Countdown

shhhhh…. This is something special for big kids to have fun making Christmas decorations too.

To make this activity suitable for a younger child use pipe cleaners instead of straws and spray paint, then tie them together with string or ribbon. Try cutting the pipe cleaners to different lengths to make different sized decorations. You can even get super special sparkly pipe cleaners here.

You will need:

  • Straws (about 10 for each decoration)
  • Cable ties
  • Plastic spray paint
  • String

Step One:

Group straws together and place cable tie around them in the middle and pull tightly. Cut of the access of the cable tie. This will splay the straws out as shown.

Step Two:

Paint the decoration using the spay paint, leave to dry.

Step Three:

Once dry, tie string around center, pop a loop on the other side and hang on tree.
