How To Make A Children’s Spooky Halloween Lantern

Get creative with this fun activity for you and your family this Halloween, even tiny hands can help. Create the Halloween lantern using different colours and shapes to create different silhouettes on your jar. Hang them outside to wow the trick-or-treaters, or use this as a spooky decoration inside your home. Fill the jar with sweets, instead of a candle, to store your Halloween treats. You can use these materials to create a lantern to celebrate other events and seasons such as Diwali or Christmas.

This activity develops your child’s fine motor skills, shape recognition, colour recognition, and role-play skills.

For one jar you will need:

• Plastic Jar
• Sequins
• Paint
• Paint Brush
• Glue
• Glue Stick

Halloween Countdown- Goody Bags

Make your very own waterproof goody bag to carry all of your discoveries that you find on autumn walks. Why not include some leaves in the layers of your bag and try to find the same shapes on your walk.

This goody bag is also a great idea for Halloween! Are you going trick or treating this year? Why not make your very own goody bag to carry all of your treats, you could even make one to match your costume. 

You will need:

• Cling Film
• Collage materials: Tissue Paper, Cellophane, Paper, Feathers, Leaves
• Sequins
• Cellotape
• Scissors

Step 1 

Cut a length of cling film roughly 60cm long.

Step 2

Sprinkle the collage materials onto the cling film, don’t put everything in at once as you will be creating layers to make your bag strong enough to hold lots of treats.

Step 3

Cut another piece of cling film and place over the top of your previous piece, this should hold all the decorations in place.

Step 4

Repeat steps 2 and 3 another 4 times. You should end up with 6 layers of cling film.

Step 5

Once you have added all the decorations you want to your bag. Fold over the edges to create a neat seam and keep all the decorations in place.

Step 6

Fold the whole thing in half like a book, then cellotape along the side and along the bottom. You will need to fold the cellotape over the two sides of the bag. Put your hand inside the bag to check for any holes.

Step 7

Create a handle by cutting 30cm of cling film. Along one edge place some decoration, fold over approx. 3cm.  Add some more decorations along the fold and fold again, repeat this until you have run out of cling film. This should then be strong enough to form a handle.

Step 8

Cellotape the two ends of the handle to the inside of the bag, make sure it is secure so that you don’t lose all of your goodies.

 

Your bag is now finished and ready to hold all your amazing goodies, whether it be leaves and conkers or yummy surprises from Halloween.

Halloween Countdown- Pasta Skeleton

Build your own spooky skeleton with dried pasta and create your own crazy creatures.

You will need:

• Black card
• PVA Glue
• An assortment of dried pasta

Using PVA glue stick the pieces of pasta onto black card to create your skeletons. You could build an entire body or focus on close-ups of different parts of the skeleton.

Can you guess what different parts of the body these images are?

Answers- A: Skull B: Arm and hand C: Spine and ribs

Why not try cutting out lots of crazy monsters out of black sugar paper. You can then use blue tack or sellotape to stick them to the inside of your windows. See how many people you can spook.
